📋 Main Responsibilities The FMA's core responsibilities include: Supervising the conduct of financial market participants to ensure their compliance with relevant laws and regulations Licensing and supervising financial service providers, including financial advisors, fund managers, and derivatives issuers Combating fraud and misconduct in the financial markets to protect the rights of investors Issuing policies and guidelines to enhance compliance awareness among market participants Collaborating with other domestic and international regulators to promote the stability and development of financial markets The FMA is also actively involved in regulatory innovation in the field of Financial Technology (FinTech), supporting the development of emerging financial services while ensuring that the interests of consumers are not infringed;
The Financial Markets Authority (FMA, Māori: Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko) is an independent regulatory body established by the New Zealand government to oversee and regulate the conduct of the country's financial markets, with the aim of promoting a fair, efficient and transparent financial environment.
The agency replaced the previous Securities Commission and integrated some regulatory functions of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Company Registrar, with the aim of rebuilding investor confidence after the 2008 global financial crisis.
